The Mysterious Letter

Ivan was surprisingly shocked to receive the letter from Mikhail on Christmas Eve Morning.
He opened the letter and read. Mikhail Wrote -

Hey, Ivan, how are you, my friend? It's been so long. Isn't it? I know you are mad at me, and I personally want you to say sorry for my misbehavior. Let's catch up in the evening, and to your surprise, I found one haunted location where we can surely get some paranormal proofs. So get up with your lazy ass and bring our gadget and hunt some ghosts like good old days. Okay? I will be waiting for you at the old cemetery road, by 10:00 p.m. And yes don't forget to bring your protected crystal.

Your old buddy
Mikhail

Ivan was stunned to read the letter and couldn't understand why Mikhail wrote a letter to reach him when he can directly call him or can come to his house. Then he shrugged off the feeling, thinking that it might be possible Mikhail was hesitant to call him or face him directly coz he feels guilty. He brushed off being mad at him and somehow he smiled that Mikhail actually does care for him and their friendship.

He was excited about the evening and started packing up his ghost-hunting equipment right on then in his backpack so that he can leave home early for the night after family dinner and gift unwrapping. He tried to call Mikhail but to no avail. Mikhail's phone was switched off.

Ivan then got busy with his family gathering, went to church, food preparation and house decoration. He didn't pay much attention to the odd thought that he and Mikhail didn't exchange words or meet for once after he had come to hometown for this holiday. In fact, his mind was off due to their fight and he was ready to end the friendship once and for all this time before he read Mikhail's letter. Ivan made up his mind too that he will mend up their differences and their friendship will stay strong forever.

The Reveal

After he has done with the family gathering, food and exchange of gifts for the evening, Ivan took his cue to meet his old friend for the night. He was excited and felt a bit nervous as well. Mikhail told him to wait for him at Old cemetery road by 10:00 pm. Countless thoughts have been run in Ivan's mind. How will he approach his old friend, how will he face him after 3 years? How will they greet each other?

Ivan was walking towards the Old cemetery road thinking all the questions in his head. The road was wet with muddy puddles due to heavy snow and there was this dim street light in a gap of 150m which was not sufficient to illuminate the whole area. All of sudden he felt he can hear the snow crunching sound behind him as someone walking behind him. He thought it might be Mikhail as he was expecting him around the same time. When Ivan turned around to see who is it and found there was no one, he felt uneasy.
He brushed off and started walking again slowly, thinking that he might be mistaken hearing some nocturnal animal in the area at night. But again after a few steps, he heard the same pace of walking sound behind him, and this sound was of heavy footsteps of a human and not from some animal.

Ivan stopped to check behind him properly, throwing flashlights everywhere but he couldn't see anyone behind him. It was the flat ground covered in white snow all around him and there were not many bushes or woods for someone to hide or duck behind.

The sound of footsteps was like someone was walking just behind him but he can't see anyone. Confused Ivan got scared and decided not to go towards the dark cemetery or explore much, and he was angry and sad that Mikhail wasn't there on time and he had to wait for him. He thought he would wait another 15 minutes for Mikhail and if he doesn't show up, he will not going to wait any longer for him. As he stopped around 250m away from the Old Cemetery gates under a lamppost, he saw a shadow figure waving at him at the cemetery gates. He tried to take a good look at the man that was waving at him and found it was Mikhail. He was happy, relieved and started walking towards the gate.

He was talking loud to Mikhail telling his experience in excitement about his way walking to this cemetery and Mikhail was responding to him in his familiar way of laughing.
Upon reaching the gate Ivan found that Mikhail was nowhere and there was no one standing there other than him. He called Mikhail's name louder, again and again, but there was no response. The Wind was howling louder in the cold snowy night. He couldn't understand what just happened and how can Mikhail got vanished in thin air in such no time?

At first, Ivan thought Mikhail was playing a prank on him, that's why he shouted and yelling at him, that if it is true that Mikhail is up to then he will never talk to him again but still got no response. Ivan tried to reach Mikhail on phone but couldn't get through the network as some slight buzzing sound kept coming through the phone's speaker due to bad weather. He stood there stunned and couldn't decide what to do next.

He has had enough and started walking back towards his home, but fate had some other plans for him.
Upon walking back fast on that same road, avoiding the muddy puddles, angrily, he was cursing Mikhail for bluffing him for the night on their best memory of childhood passion (ghost hunting) for which they spent the whole childhood time together. He thought Mikhail was trying to prove that there was no such thing called ghost or supernatural that's why he didn't show up.  Then he thought it might be possible that Mikhail got busy into something more important stuff as it was Christmas Eve night.

He was though confused upon whom he saw at the cemetery gate, and who was waving hands at him, responding to him if it was not Mikhail. The thought didn't leave Ivan's mind yet and he heard the same snow crunching sound again but this time he can partially see a shadow figure walking behind him in the darkness.

He got so scared that he almost started running and shouted at the figure not to follow him. But in response, the figure started chasing him. And all of sudden Ivan got flew in the air very high and fell on the side of the road with a loud thud, as a sudden jerk of the wind passed through his chest like someone punched him real hard.

He got hurt really bad and got unconscious for a few minutes.  After some time he opened his eyes and looked everywhere. It was pitch black everywhere, and he felt he couldn't breathe properly. Upon a clicking sound behind his head, he turned and witnessed the most nightmarish view. He saw a pair of bright red eyes looking at him, moving and growing on him slowly like fire was burning within and a disembodied face partially mutilated and was laughing at him with big fangs.  Upon looking at this gruesome ugly face, Ivan's jaw dropped in horror and eyes got wide. He was choked in his throat as the ugly face brought a giant slender hand with long sharpened fingernails and gripped his neck tightly. He tried to scream but to no avail, as his voice was gone from his throat,  Ivan tried to escape, backing off literally crawling away from the ugly face that was hanging in the air with no physical body attached to it but he couldn't move. His fears grasped him real hard and even he was laying on the cold icy ground, he felt his legs were burning too bad as some invisible hands were clawing and gripping tightly on his legs.

The Ugly Face was screaming in his ears- "You wanted to see a ghost? Here I am ."

Ivan couldn't take the horrible view of the face any longer and lost his consciousness for the rest of the night.
