The Truth
Ivan scarcely opened his sore eyes at the first ray of dawn. He belatedly realized he was passed out on the overnight snow due to witnessing that unbearable nightmarish view that practically couldn't be any more real. He was unconscious for the whole night on the side of the road under a bushy wild plant. His ghost hunting gadgets were all broken and spread over on the snowy ground. He forcibly tried to stand up but realized he might have had severely broken ribs due to that invisible punch he got on side of his ribs last night from that ugly inhumane figure and there were a few deep cuts on his legs.
Somehow Ivan stood up, gathered his courage and gadgets, started walking slowly back towards home. No one would ever know what happened last night to him, and he could have died so horribly. The dreadful thought shivered Ivan so badly that he started mumbling incoherently from the last night's trauma. He was partially shocked and couldn't think of much what to do next or whom to tell what had happened.
Upon merely reaching on the edge of the road cross, he realized he forgot to bring his protected crystal to wear last night. Then he remembered the words inside his head from Mikhail's letter -- "Don't forget to bring your protected crystal ". He finally understood why he was being attacked by that evil force.
He started walking fast towards Mikhail's Home to meet him. He had so many unanswered questions that he wants an answer from Mikhail. Moreover, he wants to know why Mikhail didn't show up last night.
Upon reaching Mikhail's home, he realized their home was less decorated for Christmas and a little outrun due to poor maintenance. He thought that might be their family business wasn't so profitable to keep up. Ivan knocked on the doorknob very hard with all eagerness. He was losing patience. A few minutes later, Mikhail's old dad opened the door. He was surprisingly shocked and was happy to see Ivan standing on the doorway. Mikhail's dad greeted him, hugged him and wished him Merry Christmas and then welcomed him inside. Ivan was looking here and there, searching for Mikhail but couldn't see him.
Ivan couldn't hold his patience any longer and asked "Where is Mikhail? I want to meet him so badly. I have to discuss something important."
Soon the smiling face of Mikhail's dad turned white, and he became serious. Mikhail's upset mom came with difficulty along the hallway and stood by Mikhail's dad. Ivan couldn't understand their emotional reactions and asked again. Mikhail's father put up a stoned face and told him that Ivan couldn't meet Mikhail anymore because Mikhail died 1 year back on one of his ghost hunting trips.
Ivan thought that the whole family was playing a prank on him. He knew Mikhail was always been very good pranking him, but he was stunned to see that Mikhail's family was also involved in the prank and didn't believe whatever Mikhail's father had said.
He started shouting Mikhail's name in their whole house and started laughing hysterically. Upon seeing Ivan in such a condition, Mikhail's mother started crying and brought him Mikhail's old items and pictures. Ivan then realized both of Mikhail's parent was serious.
Mikhail's father then told Ivan that whole life both of their parents never intervene in their ghost hunting hobbies. They never thought that being so curious to know the unknown origin of supernatural and paranormal could be dangerous or fatal. They lost their son but they are happy that Ivan was safe and quit the hunting for his own good.
Ivan was shocked and couldn't understand, how it could be possible that Mikhail called him and talked to him on the phone when he was in Saint Petersberg, that how it could be possible Mikhail left a letter for him if he is dead for 1 year. Ivan with heavy footsteps walking out of their home realized that he never cared for their friendship while Mikhail was alive.
With each and every passing day, Ivan lost his mind in the grief of losing his childhood friend, and now desperately searches for answers in the old ruins and tried to contact and communicate to Mikhail's spirit. He wants Mikhail to be his night companion, his guiding angel, his friend forever.
